BENTON CITY - CITY FLAG CONTEST
The Benton City Chamber of Commerce, in cooperation with the City of Benton City and the Benton City Revitalization Organization is seeking assistance from residents to design the City flag.
A contest has been developed to allow the community to participate in the process. Thank you and good luck!
CONTEST EXTENDED THROUGH DECEMBER TO BE ABLE TO ACCEPT MORE ENTRIES AND INCLUDE THE SCHOOL DISTRICT NOW THAT THEY ARE BACK IN SESSION.
The contest is limited to Benton City residents.
Only one submission per person is allowed. A narrative must also be submitted with the flag design describing the symbolism and/or explaining design features. Narratives are limited to 500 words.
Submissions should follow the flag design guidelines.
Participants must be 13 years or older to participate.
FLAG DESIGN GUIDELINES
Keep It Simple.
Use Meaningful Symbolism: The flag’s images, colors, or patterns should relate to what it symbolizes.
No Limit on colors used.
Be Distinctive or Be Related: Avoid duplicating other flags, but use similarities to show connections.
Flags are to be designed in 3'x5' format (on a standard sheet of paper the dimensions would be 6 inches tall x 10 inches wide) and must be submitted with the application. If the design is created with a graphic design program, it must be attached to the application.
All designs must be unique and may not include any copyrighted content.
HOW TO SUBMIT A DESIGN

The designs must be attached to the application. If the design is created in a graphic design program, attach the design in a 3x5 format.
Entries are due by December 30, 2021, at 2:00 pm. Late entries will not be accepted. All submissions can be sent from our website, to our email: firstname.lastname@example.org, return a physical copy to our office at 513 9th Street or mail it to: PO Box 401, Benton City, WA 99320.
All entries will be reviewed by a panel of judges. The top entries, as determined by the panel, may be submitted to the City Council for final approval. The City may also choose not to adopt any of the submitted designs. If a winning flag design is selected, the applicant will receive recognition at a City Council meeting or community event and a printed flag. The winner of the contest will be announced by March of 2022.
The entrant represents that the design is the entrant’s own design and not that of a third party or otherwise legally restricted for use by the City. All entries submitted to the City of Benton City for consideration shall become the property of the City of Benton City, and may be modified, reproduced, and published at the City’s sole discretion. The City of Benton City holds exclusive rights to reproduce and distribute the design. The City of Benton City assumes no responsibility for the artwork submitted and is not responsible for loss or damage of the entries. Entry constitutes acceptance of all rules and consent to use the entrant’s name and likeness as permitted by law, without compensation.
